Munchkins at Irodori

Age is really catching up with us these days. It was Flora’s turn to hit double two, and we celebrated the day at Irodori, a Japanese buffet restaurant at Riverview Hotel. We’ve been there once before, and to be honest, they serve one of the best sashimi that we’ve ever eaten at a buffet.

We initially wanted to try Ikoi, which was also a Jap buffet restaurant, at Hotel Miramar, which was across the road from Riverview. Unfortunately, even though I tried to get a reservation a week ahead, they were already fully booked. I guess that says about how popular Ikoi is, and we would love to try it one day. Nevertheless, let the feast the Irodori begin!

Cold tofu! Love this complimentary dish, but you only get one serving of it.

A picture paints a thousand words. Just look at the thick slices! Enuf’ said.

Irodori Special. I think it was some lobster roll. Nothing to shout about.

Shitake Mushrooms with teriyaki sauce. It was quite good, but we all agreed that they could sprinkle less sesame seeds. Too overpowering and it masked the mushroom taste.

This was also another complimentary dish. Steamed salmon head. Lots of bones, but, YUM.

Flora wanted to try eating the eyeball, so under the supervision of Dexter, she did it while Jovis was beside me looking on in horror and fascination.

Gyoza. Tasted normal.

Flora’s favorite. Dobinmushi. Soup served in a teapot. Irodori’s version is a little salty but we grew to like the rich taste. Too salty for Wenting and Dexter

This is another reason why we love Irodori. Complimentary Mentaiko Grilled Prawn. Sadly, you can’t order seconds for this mouth-watering dish.

Wenting’s softshell crab handroll. She had quite a few.

Tamago, Salmon and Ika Sushi

Dexter and Flora decided it would be fun to see who could swallow an insane amount of wasabi. Of course, the three of us wanted nothing to do with this. So while they decided to inflict self torture, I snapped away.

You can’t see it, but a huge clump of wasabi was nestled in the salmon sashimi. Let the games begin.

Hey, its not so bad!

Wait, wait. I take my words back.

Don’t cry!

Did I mention that because our food took forever to come, we kept ordering side orders of edamame. Wenting swore that her stomach only contained softshell crab and edamame.

I think this is called stir fried pork with ginger.. This is super good. All of us loved it.

Wenting’s soup.. Can’t remember what it was called, but I think it was quite decent.

Love (: [ Check out the ridiculous amount of edamames!]

Well, the sashimi was still as melt-in-the-mouth as usual. For about $43 per pax (after plus plus), it was a pretty good deal! So after a yummy dinner at Irodori, we dragged our stuffed selfs to vivo, again, to continue eating. The original plan was to end the night at Max Brenner’s, but we got sidetracked by a popular little game by the name of Munchkin.

On the way to Vivo. We just had to do something faggot.

Still hungry, Jovis?

Upon reaching Harbourfront, we decided to walk off our dinner first. So we came across this shop that sold all sorts of games on the third floor at Harbourfront centre. We shopped around for abit and our hands got itchy.  I guess we were also looking for a replacement for Sabotuer, a game that we were hooked on for a period of time. If you have a group of about 4 – 6 friends, I’d suggest you check out these two games.

We decided to chip in and buy a Munchkin set. It was $39.90, with various expansion packs that you can add on to the main set. There were also booster packs that featured limited edition cards, but we decided just to get the main set first and get a hang of the game before buying the expansion packs.

So we made our way to starbucks to settle down and to begin learning this new game. Pretty excited. Flora also handmade all these cute spectacles. She also had us roll a dice and we were assigned an adjective and a noun. Marvelous idea that had us all laughing at each other’s adjectives. So while the two brainy members of the group read Munchkin instructions, we made a fool of ourselves and drew attention from other people who were clearly impressed by our glittery specs. Don’t you just love it?

Brainy Munchkin Wenting!

Brainy Munchkin Dex! (And such a camwhore too)

Husband and wife munchkin!

Presenting Ms Munchkin Soh!

Birthday girl with her presents! We got her a Paul Frank shirt and this sitting robot jack for her phone.. Wenting gave her a Tiffany file. Look at her beam…

After opening her present and buying of coffee, we learnt the rules of Munchkin and needless to say, we were pretty much hooked onto it. Nearly a month later, we’re still meeting weekly to have our Munchkin fix! We’re gonna do secret santa again this year, but a little differently. We have to write three items that we want at the back of the paper that has our names. Makes life so much easier cause we don’t have to scratch our heads thinking what to buy, and if the gift will be put to good use. I’m seriously considering putting a Munchkin expansion pack as one of my choices, so we all can have fun and enjoy it.

Well, if you’re interested, google Munchkin. There are even comprehensive youtube videos teaching you how to play the game. I guarantee  you’ll have so much laughter and fun, trying to win and at the same time, scheming with another friend on how to prevent another friend from winning. The last photo of the day I’ll leave you with this. Love this shot of our latest squeeze and our spectacles. Hang around for more laughter and nonsensical stories about my friends and I!

Till then, be Munchkin-ed!

Sugar Ice

It’s been a week or so.
Doesn’t hurt that much anymore.
Little reminders that used to ache
Now just remain a distant memory.

A movie on Wednesday, library for books.
We decided to bake something since we were too bored hanging out
Grabbed two recipe books from the library
Figured out which was the yummiest looking to make
Settled for the seafood pie and chocolate brownie
Ying Jo and I met Lorla at Hougang to buy baking essentials on Sat
Went back to Lorla’s house happily after the shopping was done
Divided into two groups, with Ying and Lorla making the main dish
And husband and I were to make the dessert

So Jovis and I were happily melting the chocolate bar
Ying and Lorla were shelling the prawns
And that was when it happened.
Our next ingredient for the brownie was butter.
Husband turns around in search for the butter, realises its nowhere to be found, she asks Lorla, who in turn panics because we realise that the plastic bag that contains the butter is nowhere to be found.

Upon further investigation, we found out that the plastic bag containing the vanilla essence, lemons, cream and butter was missing. Thus, Jo and Lorla went down to buy the missing ingredients whilst Ying and I slacked away.

So when they came back with the stuff, we got to working!
Mixed in all our ingredients and put the batter into the oven!
And so with our brownie done, we went to check on the other two
But the sauce that they were making kinda looked like a dough..
So it was back to starting from scratch again
And finally Ying and Lorla managed to make the sauce right! Yay!
Into the oven that went and we took out our brownie for cooling
The brownie tasted good (:
While waiting for the pie to bake, we watched the prince of egypt
Then after, we had our main dish, seafood pie!
Wasnt that bad, as Ying says, ” You cant go wrong with seafood”
But the sauce wasnt that nice, other than that, it was still alright!
So after that, we had our brownie with Ice Cream
And we headed to town to meet Dexter
And also to satisfying this craving for the game of life card game
That ying and jo kept talking about
So we bought the cards and sat down at starbucks to play
Kinda fun actually, reminds me a little of monopoly deal..

All in all, it was yet another great day spent
Friday nights should always be like that.
Filled with love, laughter and friends (:

Leave you with a song, hope you like it (:

Of cuddles and smiles, I’d like to know.

Amazing Moments

090411
I’ll always remember it as the day that I didnt die while on the coaster!

Crashed at Ying’s place the night before
Hardly slept a wink because of her noisy fan
Woke up bright and early at 7ish to get ready
Met Aaron, Dexter, Lorla and Jo at harbourfront
A quick breakfast and we were on our way to USS!

Before we even went USS, I made a pact with ying
That we were NOT going to sit on the battlestar
I’m not good with coasters. Really not good.
Everytime I’m on one, I feel like I’m dying.
As it turns out, the evil twins, Dex and Aaron
insisted the we take the first ride together, which was Human
And I thought, everyone says that Human is not as bad as Cylon
I mean, it doesnt go 360degrees, and its supposedly the not so scary ride.
Couldnt be that bad, right?

WRONG. Dont ever listen to people who say that.
Human? More like inhuman(In jo’s words)
The only harness keeping you safe is strapped across your waist
You think, thats okay, not so bad
Well, it gets worse.
When the coaster accelerates and goes takes a plunge at the peak
you literally can feel your whole body going down
And you think you’re dying.
We sat in the order of Dexter, Ying, Me and Aaron
And lorla and Jo sat behind us
At the beginning of the ride, all four of us were holding hands
And as soon as the coaster sped up, I freaked and let go of ying’s hand
And i just clutched onto Aaron’s hand and the seat
Without being overly dramatic
It was the worst thing I have ever sat on in my life. Period.
All of us were screaming our heads off,
Jo, Lorla and I were all screaming and cursing, and as for Syy,
she was wailing, like a siren. Non stop and at frequent intervals.
I think her tears were coming out at the end of the ride.
Couldnt wait for it to end and it felt like a lifetime.

So naturally, after bring such smartasses and taking the most
dangerous and heart stopping ride as the first ride of the day
We were pretty much dazed because we were terrified and in shock
And while the three brave musketeers, Lorla Aaron and Dex
proceeded on to take the Cylon track
Jo Ying and I flatly refused to take that
And hence we waited for them to finish the ride
So when they came out, they said it was not as scary as the Human Track
And naturally, we didnt believe them, so they spent the entire day
Convincing us that Cylon was more fun and safer.

Next up, we went for the indoor coaster, Revenge of the Mummy
This was not as scary, cause I’ve taken it before
I actually love the backwards motion of the coaster
With some twist and turns and the ride ended
And when it did I turn to stare at Ying and saw a teardrop
So I asked, “eh?! you crying ah!?’
Ying: “NO!!?”
Me: Oh okay…

When the harness was released, Ying touched her face and said,
“Oh my god, I’m tearing!’
Me: Yah lah! Thats why I ask if you were crying!’

Really, roller coasters, not for the faint hearted.

So next ride, we went for Rapids Adventure
Its something like touring Jurassic Park
And I assured them that it wasnt scary at all
So we bought ponchos and awaited the ride
Quite fun, we got a little wet,
And the conversation between Jo and Ying
When the T Rex appeared really made Lorla and I laugh

Ying is determinedly avoiding looking upwards, where the T Rex is.
Jo: “SEE SEE! It’s above you!!!!
Ying: “I KNOW LAH! I SAW!” *Still refuses to look up*

And then the doors open and down we went splashing
Aaron and Dexter werent so lucky cause they were quite drenched.
So we decided to dry off and head to lunch at Mel’s Drive In
Really expensive food in USS but I guess, that’s the price you pay
After lunch, we went to watch the shows
Shrek 4D, Lights Camera Action and the Horror Musical
Didnt think the musical was worth the time..

So after that, the brave ones decided sit the Cylon coaster again
Because it was apparently very fun, and in Aaron’s words,
‘Like spa like that!’
So they headed off to go for the rides and Jo Ying and I walked around taking photos
We met some characters on the way and took a couple of shots with them
Betty Boop, Charlie Chaplin, Frankenstein, Kung Fu Panda, Puss in Boots, Cleopetra.
Walked around and bought some ice cream and Orange Juice
Met up with the other three again after an hour
And we went for the Mummy ride the second time
Then after we decided to go for the Canopy Flyer
Which was in Jurassic World
And we thought it wasnt that high, so it should be okay..
So Ying sat with Jo, I sat with Lorla, and Dex with Aaron
And again, the harness was at our waist and nothing else
So I held onto Lorla’s hand and off we went..
We took the seat facing backwards and Jo and Ying were infront
Man, I felt so insecure and damn unsafe!
Never let go of Lorla’s hand and was cursing all the way again
Behind us we could hear Ying and Jo
Quite a funny experience actually
Naturally, Aaron and Dexter felt that the ride was a waste of time
And afterwards, we decided to sit on the Enchanted Airways
Which was a family coaster and it was a small one
Because Ying initially wanted to sit that
So all of us went for it, and then Ying backed out
Guess she really didnt like that feeling sitting in the coaster
So the five of us went for it while she waited nearby
Then after, Dexter and Jovis went to take the Canopy Flyer again
And the four of us rested for a while
With Aaron psycho-ing to takethe Cylon track
And initially I was a little reluctant
But in the end I gave in, and managed to psycho Jo into taking it too
But ying was keeping her butt firmly on the seat and wouldnt budge
So the five of us went to take the Cylon track
And honestly, I didnt know if it was going to be worse than Human
But I guess, in my mind was, you only get to live once, just go for it.

And while climbing the stairs to the coaster
I could feel my heart accelerating, just like the coaster
Really not a good sign man.
So we spilt up, Jo sat in between Flora and Aaron
While I sat with Dexter
I must say, that the Cylon track is safer because of the harness
It really does support your whole body weight
Nevertheless, I still felt a little unsafe and I held onto Dexter’s hand
I think I might have fractured it or caused a bruise (sorry dex)
Never stopped screaming but it wasnt as scary as Human
Cause i was screaming and laughing at the same time
And it is true, that Cylon is really more fun and less scary,
Because of the safety of the harness
I guess it wasnt such a bad gamble afterall.
So after the ride, we decided that the Rapids adventure was the last ride for the day
However, a thunderstorm was brewing and the outdoor rides were all closed off.
So we decided to just grab some stuff at the shops and head for dinner
Sat by the kerb and took some pictures while Jo Lorla and Ying shopped
Then we headed for dinner in USS, at this pizza place Aaron recommended
Can’t remember the name
Shared a pizza, lasagna, salad, and drinks
Headed off to Vivo to stand at the skypark and stone there to see fireworks for like 10 seconds?
Realised how retarded we must have looked and moved on to our favourite hangout on weekends, Starbucks
Discussed, debated on family issues, and well, other stuff
Guess its not a typical subject to talk about
But I love convos like that because it makes me laugh
Yet it gives me time to ponder and reflect

Headed home after talking for the longest time
Crashed on my bed after a wonderful shower
Spent Sunday in a daze because of the lack of sleep
And also the screaming aches of my muscles from walking too much

All in all, it was a wonderful day spent.
My amazing friends, and an even more spectacular day that we had
And I’d love to do it all over again with them,
But not anytime soon, I think.
Photos below, more on facebook.
Thank you(:
